Come watch the Oscar winning short film "West Bank Story", with score created by our guest Yuval Ron. This musical comedy, about two star-crossed lovers, brings a hope for peace between two cultures. Our prayer for peace will continue in the form of a live concert, featuring a unique blend of Israeli, Arabic, Turkish, and Ladino Music. 2.Introduction to Hand Drums with Dror Sinai
Thursdays 7:00 to 8:30 pm October 4, 11, 18, 25 /2007 November 1, 8, 15, 29 /2007 $160 for all eight classes
This class is for beginning drummers and for other musicians who would like to gain some experience and knowledge of different drums and percussion instruments from around the world. It will focus on positioning and basic rhythm techniques used in creating the sounds and rhythms on the frame drum (Tar or Def), Riq (Middle Eastern tambourine), Doumbek (Darbuka, Durbaky, Tabla), and various sound makers that we as a group will choose.
3. Conga 101: Introduction to Afro-Cuban Percussion with Lenny Calandrino
Tuesdays 7:00 to 8:30 October 9, 16, 23, 30 /2007 $80
This class is for beginning drummers who are looking to explore the instruments and complex rhythm structures of Cuban folkloric and popular music. Congas, Clave (the heartbeat of Afro-Cuban music), Campana (cow bell), and stick pattern will be taught using an easy-going approach. All instruments will be supplied.
4.Play Shekere! Workshop with Jim Greiner
ONE DAY ONLY! Wednesday Oct. 24, 2007 7-8:30 p.m. $20 At RHYTHM FUSION
Learn To Play Shekere for: *Performance *Recreation *Drum Circles *Fun! A wide range of techniques, patterns and musical styles covered! Beginning to advanced levels, Some Shekeres provided, some for sale, bring your own, Jim will also have his new DVD, "Play Shekere!" available at the workshop
5. Intro to Djimbe with Dror Sinai, Wed Oct 3,10,17,31/07 7-8:30pm $80 We willll learn about the Djimbe, how to hold it, how to create basic sounds, basic rhythms and rhythm games¦ Great for beginners.
