Tunable Bodhran 18"
The 4" deep shell is made of 3/8" steam bent, scarf jointed solid oak. The edge of the natural heavy weight goatskin head is secured into an exterior groove with a brass-tacked wood flesh hoop, in a self-locking system which Cooperman introduced to minimize the tendency of the head to pull away from the shell. A reinforcement liner strengthens this groove and the 45-degree beveled bearing edge. A hand-rubbed natural finish accentuates the inherent grain of the oak shell.
Cooperman's tunable drum adds a simple, effective tuning technology to the strong design features of Cooperman's traditional bodhrans. The tension on the head is adjusted by the action of an internal, light weight moveable bearing member. With no clumsy hardware added to the exterior of the shell, the traditional appearance of the instrument is preserved and the player maintains a complete range of motion.
